SMUHSD Board Meeting Highlight: Later Start Time

Teen Sleeping on BooksSMUHSD’s Board of Trustees invites you to its Thursday, November 17, 2016 regular meeting. The featured discussion of community interest will be the topic of a later start time for all of the SMUHSD’s comprehensive high schools. Staff will present research that indicates that a later start time allows teens to get extra needed sleep and how sleep supports academic success and emotional well-being. Staff will also review bell schedules, a list of other districts that have moved to a later start time, issues to be addressed, and next steps in the process to move to a later start for the 17/18 school year. This is a discussion item only; staff will ask the Board to vote on this item at the December 15, 2016 meeting. The public meeting will take place at the San Mateo Adult School, 789 E Poplar Ave, San Mateo starting at 7pm. See the complete agenda.
