Burlingame Girls’ Volleyball Wins First CCS Crown

The Burlingame High School girls’ volleyball team won its first-ever Central Coast Section championship Nov. 12 when it defeated top-ranked Aptos at Independence High in San Jose. It took five sets for the second-seeded Panthers to pull off the Division III victory. The scores were 23-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20 and 15-8. Burlingame, coached by Nilo Mauricio, got past rival Mills and Saratoga in first- and second-round CCS action to get into the title match with Aptos. Now, the Panthers, with a 20-11 record, had a Nov. 16 first-round bye in the CIF Northern California Division III tournament. They will host Buhach Colony of Atwater Nov. 19.
