Adult School Student Council Presents at Conference in New Mexico

Student Leaders in Light of Adult Ed Matters PosterIn November, San Mateo Adult School (SMAS) student leaders presented a workshop at the National American Association for Adult and Continuing Education Conference in New Mexico. The topic of their workshop was "Student Council Organizing for School, Local and State Success."  The student team consisted of Denise Carrasco, Lupita Seguro, Cristina Munoz Ulrich, and former SMAS Student and current SMAS staff member Marina Kravtsova. San Mateo Adult School is a model for student involvement leadership on both the state and national level. The US Department of Education, Harvard, and the press have sought out SMAS student leaders in order to duplicate the strong community and student leadership efforts elsewhere.  The San Mateo Adult School Student Council provided a large part of the funds to send the team to New Mexico, another example of the power of Student Council.
