San Mateo Adult School Success Story Jose Luis Vasquez Palacios

Jose Luis Vasquez PalaciosJose Luis started as a hungry student in low-beginning ESL classes in 2008 and is now a cum laude graduate of CSM, getting to ready to start SFSU in the Fall.  He majored in Digital Media and TV Production at CSM.  He is the producer of the television program, "What's Up, San Mateo" at KCSM and produces online videos for classes at CSM. He attended SMAS for four years, working his way up to the advanced level, taking every opportunity to learn and grow, not just as a ESL student, but as a community member.   He credits his mom and San Mateo Adult School for his success.  His mom taught him to be open-minded, independent, and ready to learn from others.  About SMAS, he says, "I will always be thankful to all SMAS staff for being there for me and making every school day special. My achievements are theirs, too, because they are my road trip partners." As a journalist, Jose Luis hopes to convey that we all have dreams and goals and all of them are possible if we set up a plan. "It’s not just having a dream.  It’s about how we start."
