Adult School Teacher Wins 2017 California Council for Adult Education Bay Section Excellence in Teaching Award

Photo of Teacher Lisa DolehideSan Mateo Adult School (SMAS) English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher Lisa Dolehide was awarded the 2017 California Council for Adult Education Bay Section Excellence in Teaching Award.  Lisa has been the wind beneath the wings of SMAS' model Student Council program. For fourteen years, she was the Council advisor, growing it from a small exercise in democracy to a powerhouse of student voice and action.  She has also been an invaluable participant in the upswing of the new Regional Consortia system for Adult Education. She made sure teachers and students had a voice in that process and she's part of why ACCEL, our Regional Consortium, is a model for the state.  She also co-coordinated English Learner Civics for many years, providing SMAS ESL teachers with the materials they needed to teach their students how to fully engage in civic and community life.  On top of all this, she is an outstanding teacher in the classroom.  For the moment, we must say good-bye to Lisa's many contributions and energizer bunny personality as she leaving for new adventures.  Farewell and congratulations to Lisa, jump starter of democracy and learning.
