San Mateo High School (SMHS) Students in Oregon Watching Eclipse!

SMHS in Oregon Watching Total Eclipse
SMHS teacher Miguel Appleman, Superintendent Skelly and a group of students from an Advanced Placement (AP) Environmental Science class are in Oregon on a farm watching the eclipse -- perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness a total solar eclipse (“perhaps” because there is the possibility of catching another in the Northwestern US in 2045). Eclipses, being illustrative of the earth-sun relationship, are connected to the Earth Science unit of the AP Environmental Science curriculum. A secondary goal of the field trip will be a study of agriculture, while staying on the small Oregon farm. Topics include agricultural laws and policies, agricultural economics, food production, range management, integrated pest management and sustainability. Students will return late tomorrow ready to share this unforgettable field trip made possible by a dedicated SMHS teacher. Thank you Mr. Miguel!
