Grade Level: 9-12
This is a one-year course that introduces students to basic woodworking skills which can lead to a career in the wood products industry or a satisfying hobby. The student begins by learning how to use hand tools, power tools, and stationary woodworking machinery safely. After successfully completing the safety program, the student will learn the skills of material selection, measurement and layout, as well as how to design and plan a wooden project. The student will continue to build on these basic skills and knowledge to plan, fabricate, assemble and finish several finely crafted wooden projects. Career and higher education opportunities will be explored throughout the course.
This course does NOT meet the UC/CSU (University California / California State University) A-G requirements.
This course meets the CTE (Career Technical Education) district graduation requirement.
