Grade Level: 9-12
This is a one-year course that introduces students to basic woodworking practices and techniques that can lead to a career in the building trades and woodworking industries, and can be useful in any aspect of the construction industry. Students begin by learning the basics of hand tools, power tools, and stationary woodworking machinery safely. After successfully completing the section on safety, students will practice the skills of material selection, measurement and layout, as well as how to design and plan various wood projects. Students will continue to build on these basic skills and knowledge to plan, fabricate, assemble and finish finely crafted projects each semester. Career and higher education opportunities will be explored throughout the course.
This course does NOT meet the UC/CSU A-G requirements.
This course meets the CTE district graduation requirement.
