Professional Development for New Hires and Induction Mentors
-
All teachers newly hired to the San Mateo Union High School District participate in a professional learning support program designed to orient individuals to district priorities based on student achievement data and areas of identified need. This program is designed and differentiated for both experienced teachers and teachers new to teaching. For teachers in the induction program, they will select professional learning sessions based on their professional growth goals and Individual Learning Plan (ILP) in collaboration with their mentor. A calendar of professional learning events for newly hired teachers is shared at the start of each year during orientation, and updated throughout the year as new opportunities become available. There are also professional learning opportunities that focus on content specific pedagogy and resources facilitated by content area coordinators and departments that induction teachers may include in their ILP.
