Mental Health Resources

  • The San Mateo Union High School District has partnered with the Peninsula Health Care District and Stanford University to implement an expanded mental health program. Each site has at least 3 wellness counselors to provide counseling, consultation, professional development, parent engagement, and crisis intervention/postvention to students on site.  Additionally, each site includes a Lead Wellness Counselor, providing an additional level of support, including supporting site wellness counselors, participation on the site leadership teams and building capacity for various levels and types of interventions.

  • Burlingame High School is proud to offer students access to three full-time Wellness Counselors on campus. The Wellness Counselors offer drop-in support and short-term intervention for students facing social and emotional challenges that impact academic performance, attendance, and behavior at school.

In a safe and supporting environment, students can meet with a Wellness Counselor to discuss a variety of complex issues such as stress, trauma, suicide, depression, anxiety, harassment, bullying, grief, self-esteem, family life, drug and alcohol use, relationships, gender-identity and LGBTQ+.  The Wellness Program provides short-term individual, group and/or drop-in support in a confidential, non-judgmental space staffed with therapists who are dedicated to improving the health, well-being, and educational outcomes of all students.  Services are available in English and Spanish.

How to Access the Wellness Counselors

Students are encouraged to utilize drop-in hours or be referred by their School Counselor. Drop-in hours are published around campus, including the Counseling office and A134. For additional resources, visit the Mental Health and Wellness Counseling page.
