San Mateo High School has a long-standing tradition of providing outstanding academic programs as well as excellent co-curricular opportunities. It is important that these traditions continue and improve in order to prepare our students to participate fully in an increasingly competitive and complex global society. To accomplish our goals, it is essential that the parents of our students feel connected to San Mateo High School and a part of our school community. To help facilitate this, the San Mateo High School Parent-Teacher Organization provides a vital link between you and the school through:

• Zoom meetings, Town Halls and Bearcat gatherings
• Daily emails of the Daily Bulletin (school announcements)
• Special email announcements of school events and activities
• The Parent Teacher Organization Handbook for a quick reference to contact information for teachers, Parent-Teacher Organization, student leadership, and the school calendar
• Informational meetings and volunteer opportunities
• Parent Education
• Recognition for students and staff with Bearcat Awards, Scholarships, Jefferson Awards, Welcome Back Lunch and Staff Appreciation
• Refreshments and hospitality for numerous school events including Back to School Night, Open House, Freshman Orientation, 8^th Grade Information Night, Senior Awards Night

We encourage you to become actively involved in your child’s high school education; join the Parent Teacher Organization and one of the associated San Mateo High School booster clubs. Come to meetings. Volunteer to help at one or more of the various parent-sponsored events during the year. Read the Daily Bulletin. Be involved, and experience the famous BEARCAT spirit first hand! Not only will your generous support help San Mateo High School build even stronger programs for your son or daughter, but you will also develop rewarding relationships with our teachers, staff and other San Mateo High School families.

The SMHS PTO looks forward to continuing to support our Bearcat families by utilizing Zoom and hope to incorporate more in-person events. The SMHS PTO will foster an environment of cooperation and solidarity by providing parents opportunities to connect with the SMHS community, to be informed on matters impacting SMHS and their students, and to become involved with SMHS activities.
