2022 Summer School Information

  • Summer School registration closed on April 15. Students should report to the Summer School office on June 1 if they need to enroll before Summer School starts on June 3.

    Students interested in Summer School 2022 can take advantage of the following opportunities:

     Credit Repair

      • Teacher-led hybrid (in-person and virtual synchronous [remote] not Edgenuity) program for rising 10th-12th grade students who need to repair a "D" or "F" grade.
      • Location: San Mateo High School
      • Sign up: With your School Counselor
      • Two sessions / Five credits per session. One summer school session = one semester. 

        • In-person days: 6/3, 6/6, 6/7, 6/13, 6/14,  6/21
        • Remote days : 6/8, 6/9, 6/10, 6/15, 6/16, 6/17
        • No class: Monday, June 20

        • In-person days: 6/22, 6/23, 6/27, 6/28, 7/7, 7/8
        • Remote days: 6/24, 6/29, 6/30, 7/1, 7/5, 7/6
        • No class: Monday, July 4

        • Session 1: June 3 - 21, 8:30 a.m. - 12:50 p.m. daily
        • Session 2: June 22 - July 8, 8:30 a.m. - 12:50 p.m. daily

        • Algebra I
        • Geometry 
        • Algebra II
        • Integrated Math I & II

        • Physical Education classes are offered in-person for grades 10-12 for credit recovery (and 1st-time credit for rising 10th graders in AVID only)



     

    Accelerated Algebra I (HHS Students Only) and Geometry (AHS, BHS, CHS, MHS and SMHS Students)


    Accelerated Algebra I (HHS ONLY) 

    • Teacher-led hybrid class (in-person and virtual synchronous [remote] not Edgenuity) for rising 10th grade Hillsdale High School students who have the following:
      • Fall Semester and Spring first progress report with an “A-” or better in Geometry
      • 8th Grade CAASPP score greater than 2600 (if available)
    • Credits: 10
    • Location: San Mateo High School
    • Session: June 2 - July 8, 8:30 a.m. -12:50 p.m. 
      • No classes: Monday, June 20 and Monday, July 4
    • Sign up with your Hillsdale High School Counselor. 


    Accelerated Geometry (AHS, BHS, CHS, MHS and SMHS) 

    • Teacher-led hybrid class (in-person and virtual synchronous [remote] not Edgenuity) for rising 10th grade SMUHSD students who have the following: 
      • Fall Semester and Spring first 6-week progress report with an “A-” or better in SMUHSD Algebra 1
      • Math Inventory Quantile score of 1200 or higher (or met all critical scores on MDTP Geometry Readiness test) taken in Algebra 1 class in 9th grade.
    • Credits: 10 units of SMUHSD Geometry credit
    • Location: San Mateo High School
    • Session: June 3 - July 8, 8:30 a.m. -12:50 p.m.  
      • No classes: Monday, June 20 and Monday, July 4
    • Sign up with your School Counselor. 



     
    English Language Development

    • Teacher-led in-person class for English Learner (EL) students who want to strengthen their mastery, repair a poor grade, or want first-time credit.  
    • Session: June 6 - July 1, (Monday - Friday) 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
      • No class: Monday, June 20
    • Courses offered:
      • Integrated ELD I, II and III
      • EL Government
      • EL Economics
      • EL Intro to Science
      • EL Algebra 
      • Physical Education

    • Credits: 5 units per course 
    • Location Update: Peninsula High School (860 Hinckley Road, Burlingame)

SamTrans

    A SamTrans bus pass is available for every student that is attending summer school but students must sign up with your school counselor in advance.

Deadlines and Details

  • Key Details:

    • Students must enroll in these courses through their School Counselor
    • Deadline for enrollment: April 15, 2022 (5 p.m.)
    • Students receive 5 credits per course per session.
    • Families will receive a summer school welcome letter from the district by May 20, 2022
    • A SamTrans bus pass is available for every student that is attending summer school, but students must sign up with your school counselor in advance.
    • Students can miss up to two classes per session.  On the third absence, students are dropped from courses. Three tardies (10 minutes or longer - in person or virtual) equates to one absence.

    How to Add/Change Summer School Classes

    • If you did not get into a class you requested, or you did not pass a class this semester, please see your counselor to request a new summer school course.   Counselors are available until June 3, 2022.
    • Late registration is first-come, first-served! On June 2, 3 and 6 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.  The Summer School office is located on the second floor of the A Building at San Mateo High School. You may reach the summer school office by calling (650) 558-2398 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
    • If you did not sign up for summer school previously, your parent/guardian must be present at the time of registration or available by phone. Students cannot be registered for summer school at this point without school counselor or parent/guardian approval.   
    • To drop a class prior to June 2, email your counselor and include your name, ID & the course name. Counselors are available until June 3, 2022.  Without this information students cannot be dropped.
    • Students who fail to show will be dropped after the second day of each session.
