Afternoon At The Opera Summer 2018

Come immerse yourself in spell binding stories with intriguing themes, daring schemes with  intriguing developments and, in some cases, absolutely hilarious outcomes as we study and enjoy 4 operas. Treat yourself to an afternoon at the opera this summer. Novices Welcome!

Guest Passes will NOT be accepted for the Summer 2018 class.

June 4:     Dr. Atomic by John Adams. The opera reveals the inner turmoil of the scientists of the Manhattan Project leading up to the detonation of the first atomic bomb.

June 11:    Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini follows a child bride from hopefulness to despair in his most lyrical of operas that ends in a spine-tingling climax.

June 18:    L’Italiana in Algeri by Gioachino Rossini explores the comic possibilities of the relationship between the European and “Moorish” cultures in a playful, vivacious way.

June 25:    Candide. Leonard Bernstein, using wit, charm, and singable tunes, retells Voltaire’s story of a sheltered young man facing the realities of life.
