  • The trustees on the board of the San Mateo Union High School District are elected officials from all walks of life who come together to make important decisions concerning the school district. Their individual and unique perspectives contribute to the educated opinions that influence the board’s resolutions to district wide problems.

Linda Lees Dwyer

Linda Lees Dwyer was first elected to the San Mateo Union High School District Board in November of 2005. She served on the Burlingame Elementary School Board from 2000-2005.  She and her husband are the parents of 5 SMUHSD graduates, hosted 3 foreign exchange high school students who attended our schools and are currently foster parents to a high school student at one of our schools.

Ms. Dwyer is a attorney with a firm in San Francisco.  She graduated from Indiana University School of Law, where she served as a graduate assistant in school law.  She is an avid supporter of district sports and the fine and performing arts.

Mr. Land has been on the San Mateo Union High School District Board since December 2015 and before his service on the SMUHSD Board he served on the Burlingame Elementary School Board. He has been an educator for all of his professional life, as a Teacher, Assistant Principal and currently the Principal, Santa Rita School, Los Altos. Mr. Land grew up in Southern California and graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles. He and his family reside in Burlingame.

Mr. Friedman has been on the San Mateo Union High School District Board since December 2011 and prior to his service on the SMUHSD Board, Marc served for 8 years on the board of the Burlingame Elementary School District.  He is a Visiting Professor at the Keller Graduate School of Management and a Senior Consultant at McMillan Doolittle.  Mr. Friedman currently serves on the Delegate Assembly of the California School Boards Association and is the President of the San Mateo County School Boards Association. Mr. Friedman and his family reside in Burlingame.

Robert H. Griffin is currently a member of the San Mateo Union High School District Board of Trustees. He has been on the board since January 1996.  Mr. Griffin believes that education is the key to equality and has focused his attention on meeting the needs of all students. Prior to joining the school board he volunteered in the classroom through Junior Achievement and has been active in local volunteer organizations all his life.

Mr. Griffin is managing partner of Williams, Adley & Company, LLP. He has practiced public accounting for over 30 years. He graduated from the University of San Francisco with a BS in Accounting and obtained his CPA license in 1981. He completed the CSBA Master of Boardsmanship Program in 1997.

Mr. Griffin is a proud graduate of San Mateo High School and was born, raised and educated in San Mateo. He and his family reside in San Mateo.

Mr. Hanley has been on the San Mateo Union High School District Board since December 2001. He has utilized his extensive entrepreneurial leadership experience to promote, create, support, and replicate high quality schools and increase families’ access to them. In 2007 he founded the California Charter Schools Association’s Oakland Charter School Collaborative and later led the American Center for School Choice for six years. He received his M.A. in International Affairs from The George Washington University and his B.A. in political science from the University of Oregon. He also earned a Master in Governance from the California School Boards Association. He is a resident of San Mateo.

Josh was the elected representative for UASB at the 2017 Leadercon held during the summer. Josh is an active member of Leadership, Acts of Random Kindness Club, Cross Country and has been in Capuchino's Leadership program since he was a freshman. As Josh's Leadership teacher, Mr. Bywater, states: "Josh is great student to have in class. He is honest, hard working and authentic. He can create a  music setlist for any rally and he is guaranteed to keep you laughing from start to finish at school events." Josh will serve as the Student Board for the 17-18 school year.

Kei is a sophomore at Burlingame High School and is a first year student board representative. While juggling academics and extracurriculars, Kei loves to listen to music, play basketball, and go on adventures. This is his first year involved with leadership and working with the Unified Associated Student Body cabinet and hopes to continue doing so. Kei is excited to be a student representative and being active with the board members this year.
