The San Mateo Union High School District is excited to announce that we have partnered with Alder Graduate School of Education’s Teacher Residency Program, a program that works with classified employees to help them earn their teaching credential and Masters in just one year, while getting hands on experience with students in San Mateo County Schools.

The candidates work closely with a mentor teacher, and learning alongside other residents through seminars. They offer tuition scholarships of up to $10,000 to specifically support those whose experiences and identities reflect the communities we serve, and State grants of up to $42,250 are available to teacher residents this year.  Residents can also apply for up to 50K in federal financial aid/loans.

Marshall Teacher Residency
Deadline to apply for the 2024-2025 Cohort is March 8

The Marshall Teacher Residency is a one-year teacher preparation program providing hands-on clinical practice, personalized mentoring, in-classroom coaching, and a collaborative community. In just 12 months, become a credentialed teacher and receive priority hiring at 20 California districts and public charter networks! The program provides affordable tuition and a living stipend, and California provides grants to cover your tuition. 

As one of the most comprehensive residencies for aspiring teachers in the nation, the Marshall Teacher Residency provides a pathway to:

  • Single Subject Teaching
  • Multiple Subject Teaching
  • Education Specialist Instruction

Learn more about the program and credential options. Designed in partnership with experts from Stanford University, and born out of Summit Public Schools, the Marshall Teacher Residency is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and partner with schools throughout California.

Program benefits include: 
  • Affordable tuition and a living stipend during the entirety of the program
  • A California Preliminary Single Subject Teaching Credential upon completion of the program
  • 1:1 mentoring and coaching, along with a collaborative and diverse peer community
  • Priority in the hiring process at SMUHSD schools 
  • The option to pursue a one-year Master’s in Education upon completion of the program
