Assistant Director Eric Saavedra
Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Eric Saavedra
Hello! My name is Eric Saavedra and I am the Assistant Director at the San Mateo Adult School. My career in adult education started when I returned home from my work and travels abroad as a Peace Corps volunteer in Yemen and Morocco. Adult education seemed like a natural extension of the kind of work I did as a Peace Corps volunteer, the kind of work I love—working with multicultural adult learners and reaching out to those that need help in overcoming barriers to employment and educational opportunities. Prior to coming to the San Mateo Adult School, I worked as an Employment and Training Specialist for Santa Cruz County, focusing on serving Latino youth in the Watsonville area. Then I worked for twelve years at the Morgan Hill Adult School teaching ESL, ABE/GED, and Adult High School Diploma, and I also served as the school’s CalWORKs Site counselor.
I believe strongly in the mission of adult education and the role it plays in educating and training adults of all ages and backgrounds to become skilled workers, role models to their children, and active members in their community. I am so proud to be working in now my fourth year with this great “team” of staff and students at the San Mateo Adult School.
