Julie Suess

Julie Suess Education Specialist, Therapeutic Day School

This is my 11th year with the SMUHSD all within the Special Education discipline teaching now on three different school sites, Aragon 9 years, Peninsula TDS 1 year and now the program has moved to Capuchino HS. I love working with teens and being a positive adult in their lives, this is what I do while they I teach academics. I also enjoy being part of the collaborative community on campus because we all want our students’ to feel successful. I really enjoy working with students who struggle both academically and emotionally at school because I can be a help make school a safe supportive place for them to come and learn.

I love traveling and was blessed to live in Europe for 6 years and spent most of the summer back there when I can. I also love being outside hiking, biking, walking with friends and can’t get enough of the mountains and beaches. Playing guitar and singing have been a part of my life for a long time, and brings me joy. I was born in Berkeley while my dad was working on his BA at Cal and teaching credential at SFSU and am proud to be a Bay Area native. Didn’t think I would become a teacher, but I now I can’t imagine doing anything else so important for a career. One thing that encourages me is when I see a graduate being a productive citizen in their workplace and life; this is why I do what I do.
