Attendance Overview

  • Attendance Office Phone: 650-558-2408

Attendance in school is mandatory for all students under the age of 18. Illness, medical, optometry services, dental services, the funeral of members for student's immediate family (as defined in Education Code 45194), jury duty, court appearance, and observance of religious holiday or ceremony are the only legal reasons for a student to be absent from school. For all above reason, a form of documentation will have to be provided to the attendance office in order for the absent to be excuse. It is the parent's/guardian's and the student responsibility to check attendance daily to ensure that attendance was taken accurately after the automated phone call in the evening.

Parent/Guardian Responsibility: Parents are expected to clear a student's absence on the day the student is absent.

Absences must be cleared only by a parent/guardian phone call or verify documentation to the Attendance Office at 650-558-2408 within 48 hours of the absence.

After this period, an absence cannot be cleared and can affect a student's overall grade in a class and participation in extra-curricular activities. This policy applies to tardies as well. Absences not cleared by the parent/guardian within 48 hours of the absence will be considered a permanent cut/truancy absence.

Parent/guardians and students should make every effort to schedule non-school appointment outside of school hours. If this is unavoidable, the student must have the parent/guardian call the Attendance Office at 650-558-2408 to obtain a "Permit to Leave School" prior to departure. Students who leave campus without a "Permit to Leave School" will receive a permanent cut/truancy absence-even if a parent calls to clear the absence afterward. A "cut" is identified by "T" on a student attendance record. Students are responsible for any missed assignments.
