If You Test Positive for COVID

SMUHSD continues to follow the CDPH’s COVID-19 Isolation Guidance for all students and staff. 

Stay home if you have COVID-19 symptoms, until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without using fever reducing medication AND other COVID-19 symptoms​ are mild and improving.​

Mask when you are around other people indoors for the 10 days after you become sick or test positive (if no symptoms). Day 0 is symptom onset date or positive test date.  Additionally, please see further instructions below:

Staff: Complete the 24-25 COVID Staff Reporting Form. Contact your supervisor to alert them to your absence. Enter your absence into Aesop. Details that will be needed include the following:

• Date Symptoms started
• Date you tested (swab date, not results date)
• Last day on campus 
• Anyone in your household attend or work at any of our sites? Please list names and locations

Students: Complete your school's Attendance Reporting Form. Email your school’s Health Aide and provide:

• Date symptoms started
• Date you tested (swab date, not results date)
• Last day on campus 
• Anyone in your household attend or work at any of our sites? Please list names and locations

Positive Test: Reach out to your medical provider right away about medicines to fight COVID-19. Medicines are safe and effective in preventing severe symptoms. If you are uninsured or cannot reach a medical provider, get a FREE telehealth visit online at sesamecare.com/covid or call 1-888-897-1244.

Stay Home if you Get Sick
Stay Home if you are experiencing COVID symptoms or have tested positive for COVID. If your test is negative but you continue to have symptoms, test again 24-48 hours later. Please also refer to the CDPH’s When to Keep Your Child Home from School for other symptoms.

COVID Testing
SMUHSD will prioritize at-home rapid antigen testing this year and will have minimal on-site testing. Please stop by your health office or District Office to access free COVID tests. 

Exposure notifications
CDPH continues to recommend that schools consider a general notification to the entire school community during times of elevated community transmission of COVID-19. Community notification of increased transmission can serve as a reminder to monitor for symptoms, use available rapid testing/treatment options, and prevent further spread.

 

The District will  notify staff members in compliance with Cal-OSHA of possible exposures to COVID-19. This means that staff will be notified when there is a confirmed positive case on their campus or work location. These notifications will be disseminated weekly to your email and/or text via our communications system, ParentSquare.
 

Facemasks
The San Mateo Union High School District follows the guidance of the California Department of Public Health and San Mateo County regarding face masks. Masks are available in the health office and by request. Students and staff returning after a recent positive test should continue to wear a mask for a full 10 days while indoors.

 

Vaccinations
The District continues to encourage all eligible individuals to get the COVID vaccine and booster. Visit myturn.ca.gov to find a free vaccine near you today. For more information about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines visit the CDPH’s website.
