Spotlight 2023-2024
Dear SMUHSD Community Members:
Congratulations on a job well done in the 2023-24 school year. We have a lot to be proud of in our District, and if you are reading this message YOU had something to do with this success.
In addition to the many success stories you will read about in these pages, I want to highlight a few of our many accomplishments. On January 18, the SMUHSD Board of Trustees approved the District’s request for the Bridge program to apply for a County-District School Code through the California Department of Education (CDE). This was the first step for Bridge in becoming its own school in the eyes of the CDE. On March 8, we were notified by the CDE that our application had been approved making Bridge the 10th school in our District. I could not be more pleased with this decision. Bridge will continue to work toward its vision to become a community school that is specifically designed to meet the needs of recently arrived newcomer students and those transferring over from the comprehensive sites. I am so proud of the tremendous outcomes our educators are able to achieve in supporting our Bridge students, and I look forward to seeing all that they will accomplish in the coming years.
On May 23, our Board of Trustees adopted a new logo which better represents our Equity Mission and Vision and District Mission and beliefs. The new logo incorporates the concept of our 10 schools and the six cities that make up our ONE District. This concept of 10-6-1 is illustrated in our new logo which forms a kaleidoscope. The visual representation also refers to the ever-changing and endless possibilities for our students and other members of the SMUHSD community. It allows for the unique characteristics of our schools, students and educators while also recognizing our intersections and interdependability. Learn more by visiting www.smuhsd.org/logo.
My heart is filled with gratitude for you - the amazing members of our District community who contribute to the work we do and the success we see in our students every day and over the four precious years we get to spend with them.
Sincerely,
Randall Booker
Superintendent
