Sustainability Week
Help Celebrate Sustainability Week: November 17-21, 2025
The San Mateo Union High School District’s Sustainability Committee announced it plans for a dynamic week of projects, lessons, and activities centered on Sustainability in November 2025. Sustainability facilitators from each site will work with students, teachers, environmental organizations, and community members to organize activities that promote environmental literacy.
All six comprehensive high schools will have assemblies that aim to educate students about climate change and how San
Mateo County is responding to this challenge.
The week will also sponsor a Green Commute Day where staff and students will be encouraged to walk, carpool, bike, or take public transportation to school.
Schools will compete for the Superintendent’s prize based on the school with the highest percentage of Green commuters.
Other activities include:
- Lunch time activities such as waste sorting games, fashion shows with thrifted clothes, and bike races
- Waste Audits
- Hands-on restoration and water monitoring activities
- Climate focused lessons in math, science, Government/Economics, and English classes
- Green Jobs career fair/panel
- Campus tours of Green Infrastructure highlighting the new solar and EV Charging stations
Sustainability Week will culminate with an evening event at the Performing Arts Center with a focus on the climate and water crisis confronting San Mateo County and beyond. A panel of leading water policy-makers, activists, and researchers will participate in a round-table discussion of water equity, and how individuals can protect our amazing San Francisco Bay and ocean.
