The San Mateo Union High School District has collected and answered a large number of frequently answered questions. Please refer to that document here.

Full Question: How long will you wait between the three groups in Phase 3? For example, how many days between adding 100 students to the in person learning?

We would like to ramp up between the grouping as soon as possible (within a week).  Depending upon the total number of students that elect to Return to Campus, we may be able to move even fast.  We will have those final results by Friday, March 5.

The AHS Administrative Team is working closely with the Leadership Class to plan three different options for a few senior events, depending upon the restrictions that are in place within a few weeks of the activity date.  The guidelines are simple: [A] No Contact; [B] Limited Contact; [C] No Restrictions.

We are currently in the planning phases for the following activities: Senior Videos, Senior Graduation Material Distribution, Senior Activity Day, Senior Sunset, and Graduation.

It is expected that we will not be able to host a full graduation ceremony as it has looked in the past - we will not be able to put a thousand+ people in the stadium at one time.  We also understand that Graduation is a BIG DEAL and we want to celebrate our grads in a more festive way than we were able to last year! The way graduation looks and feels will largely depend on the county restrictions that are in place within two weeks prior to the date of graduation.  This timeline will allow us to make a final decision on the ceremony particulars and fully prepare for the event.  

With that said, we ARE working with outside vendors to plan for a much fuller drive through experience (if restrictions are still in place) AND potential mini-in person ceremonies.  Both of these options will include graduate photo opportunities and individual presentations of diplomas; we will will also host a virtual celebration on YouTube that includes the full graduation program (including speeches and acknowledgements).

Full Question: Can you show screenshots of the app that will be used for the daily health screening, including the exact questions the kids have to answer to be allowed to come to school? Looking at the calendar timing that was shown (with Phase 3 in-person estimated near spring break) and thinking if it is the same app that is being used for sports, many could get the ‘x’ not to come if they travel outside of the bay area over the break. I am specifically thinking of my senior who may need to visit college campuses during the month of April (not necessarily over spring break, but possibly) but also can't wait to meet her teachers before she graduates. Thanks!!

It is important to know that, if a student has traveled more than 120 miles away OR has spent a particular amount of time with people outside of their usual pod, they may be asked to learn from home for a prescribed number of days.  Students that are traveling out of state or getting on a plan will be asked to stay off campus for a number of days after they return from that travel to watch for COVID symptoms.

Full Question: The detailed return plan submitted for Aragon Phase 2 says the following will be implemented, but the implementation plan presented doesn't seem to match. "Students participating in various enrichment programs will return to campus for some instruction and activities. Staff: up to 60 staff members on campus daily. Students: Less than 20% of total enrollment. Enrichment Pods: Enrichment pods will be added incrementally by week, not to exceed 20% of total enrollment. Cohorting: 14:1 or dependent on classroom space/size." That would be about 350 students during Phase 2. Why are we not moving forward with that approved plan while we are still in red/Phase 2?

This simple answer to this is we don't have many teachers working from campus to supervise pods at this time.  We have 2 learning pods on campus and a large number of athletes.  Additionally, we are planning to bring in Dance, Robotics, and Drama in the upcoming weeks, along with planning for orientation activities for new students prior to entering Phase 3. 

With the speed at which we are moving toward Phase 3, the AHS team is focusing our efforts on ensure that the Return to Campus runs smoothly and safely, while continuing to add enrichment activities to the menu after getting Phase 3 underway.

Full Question: Will their be any provision for vaccination for kids who decide to attend school as they could be carriers? 

At this time, vaccinations are not yet approved for children.  The District Office has worked with the County of San Mateo to get teachers and school staff in line for vaccinations, but there are not currently any plans to support students in gaining access to vaccination appointments.

Yes!  We will place siblings in the same cohort groupings for Return to Campus. 

Students will be assigned to specific locations and/or classrooms to work with their teachers during these times.

Return to Campus decisions are SEPARATE from AP Testing.  The full AP Testing Schedule will be available soon on another part of the website.

You bet!  We don't expect our new students to get to know campus from maps and videos :). For students selecting the Return to Campus option, we plan to host small orientations to tour them on campus prior to beginning their classes.
